About us

We are April Six, a marketing and communications agency with 20+ years of experience. We exist to make moments that matter for organisations that are shaping the future. We work with some of the most exciting, forward thinking technology, science and mobility brands in the world today.

We are 120 talented strategists, creatives and client managers located across the UK, Europe, North America and Asia. Our team combines agency technology, science communication, journalism and in-house corporate communications experience, to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

About the role

We’re currently recruiting for an Account Manager (PR) to join our Science, Engineering and Innovation team, which works with some of the brightest people and organisations on the planet. Every day we handle subjects as diverse as fundamental science, space, health, energy, artificial intelligence, smart cities and many more.

We’re looking for someone with genuine enthusiasm and passion for the work we do here, so we’ll want to hear why working in science and engineering is exciting to you. Prior experience in this space is beneficial but not essential, as long as a keen interest is there.

As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll play a crucial role in managing the delivery of high quality PR campaigns for our client base. This means being the central linchpin who can seamlessly coordinate multiple teams (both internal and external) to keep campaigns on track and to the highest quality, and making sure the client is kept informed every step of the way.

As well as excellent project management skills and a good understanding of communications principles, it would also be beneficial if you are able to deliver on a tactical level. We’re very open to what skills you might offer on this front, so whether you’re a great media pitcher, a social media wizard, SEO specialist, or a brilliant copywriter, we’d love to hear from you.

Our work is extremely varied and offers an array of opportunities to broaden your communications experience while working on fascinating subjects that genuinely do good in the world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Inputting into creative concepts and strategy development for PR campaigns
  • Project management responsibility for PR campaigns, including stablishing and managing appropriate campaign timelines
  • Becoming a trusted day-to-day contact for clients on PR campaigns, advising on channels and tactics, managing approvals and leading progress calls and meetings
  • Becoming an internal champion for client objectives and messaging in order to support the wider team to deliver work that perfectly aligns with our clients’ expectations
  • Hands-on support with delivering key tactics including media relations, social media, copywriting and events
  • Management and mentoring of junior members of staff within account teams
  • Managing upwards to ensure senior staff are adding value to campaigns as appropriate
  • Researching and contributing ideas to keep our campaigns at the leading-edge of industry creativity and best practice
  • Managing suppliers, including delivering briefs, managing their deadlines and ensuring the quality of results
  • Approving campaign content, as part of your responsibility for maintaining our rigorous quality control processes
  • Supporting new business pitches, including research, brainstorming and presenting to prospective clients

Experience and characteristics required:

  • Solid experience working in a similar PR management role (not necessarily within an agency)
  • Excellent project management skills and the confidence to communicate with and manage senior members of staff (both internally and client-side)
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate and engaging copy for clients including complex subject matters
  • Genuine interest in science, engineering and innovation related subjects
  • Proactive and supportive team player, with a willingness to contribute new ideas / challenge the status quo

Desirable experience and characteristics:

  • A Science Degree

And in return?

Apart from working with a cracking bunch of people, we have a number of initiatives to help nurture our talent as well as some nice perks to make life a little easier:

  • Room to Grow appraisal system with individualised growth objectives and real time feedback
  • Professional development plan – we look to support skills growth with internal support and coaching, alongside online and in-person training and development opportunities
  • 28 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • Health care cash back scheme (giving you money back for health related fees such as dental appointments, contact lenses, prescriptions or physio)
  • 24 hour GP phone or video consultations and a 24 hour helpline offering counselling and supportive information
  • An hour every week to have a “Moment that matters for you” – to relax, exercise or pursue something that’s important to you
  • A special gift every year on your work anniversary to say thank you for being a part of our team
  • Lunch on the company once a month
  • Whole agency bubbles for significant pitch wins
  • Electric car leasing scheme
  • Refer A Friend scheme
  • Cycle to Work scheme
